Things to do on a Rainy Day at Wānaka Lavender Farm

You're planning a fun day out in Wānaka but the weather doesn't want to cooperate. Typical. But really, you have nothing to worry about with Wānaka Lavender Farm on your to-do list because there are still activites to take part in, even on a rainy day.

Put your best rain boots on and head outside

Walking, skipping, singing in the rain... you can do what you like as you're making your way around our lovely gardens in the drizzle! There are winding paths to be explored and giant games to be played. In spring and summer, there will still be blooms aplenty to feast your eyes on. In the colder months, heading outside and around the farm is more about visiting the animals than the flowers. One thing is certain, when you visit Wānaka Lavender Farm on a wet day, you're sure to notice all of the different smells stirred up by the rain.

Did you know that between May and September you can hand-feed the alpaca and sheep?! It's a great activity for people of all ages, but the kids really do have a blast getting to know these gentle creatures up close and personal. We recommend popping in in the morning for feeding animals, as it's first come first served on busy winter days!*

*The amount of feed available is limited per day for the welfare of our animals.

For the kids: take part in the Lavender Scavenger

Adventure doesn't go on pause just because it rains! Our lavender scavenger hunt is available all year round, it's the perfect way to keep the little ones busy as you meander around the farm on a dull day.

Sitting on the purple tractors, saying hi to the chickens, and finding our scarecrow Charlie, it's all part of the experience. Of course, there's a prize to collect at the end, too.

Cosy up in the tearoom

Don't fancy getting wet? Our tearoom is a great place to sit back and relax whilst it pours down outside. On chilly days, expect to have the fire roaring for extra warmth.

Our selection of beverages include our very own herbal teas, which are served in teapots and good old-fashioned teacups. From a walnut, cinnamon and apple tea that tastes like autumn, to a magical colour-changing lavender and butterfly pea flower tea, you can't go wrong. If you prefer classic flavours, we have English Breakfast and a tea/coffee blend on offer as well!

During winter, we make our decadent Italian Drinking Chocolate which is always a hit with the locals. And let's not forget our lavender cookies, macarons, scones, and blondies to complement your hot drink*.

With a mini table covered in books and puzzles, even the little ones will enjoy their enriching time in the tearoom.

*treats subject to availability, our offerings sometimes change.

Taste some local honey

Getting a good taste of natural New Zealand honey never gets old, whether you're a local or visitor. At Wānaka Lavender Farm, we have a carefully curated selection that will sweeten up your rainy day! From Rata, a sensational buttery and creamy honey, to the world renowned Mānuka honey, you won't be disappointed.

Our own bees at the farm stay busy over the summer season making our special Lavender Honey. The helpful beekeepers from Taylor Pass Honey come and collect the liquid gold and bottle it up for us. After that, it's here for the tasting! It doesn't get more local than that.
